INFORMATION

Mackerel has a rich and intense flavor with a slight fishy undertone. Its firm texture makes it ideal for grilling, baking or smoking, and although oily, it is less oily than sardines. When marinated in olive oil, the appetizing flavor of mackerel combines perfectly with the fruity notes of olive oil.

Mackerel fillet in a delicate mustard sauce (Filet de maquereau dans une sauce délicate à la moutarde) - 125 g, from Berthe, Portugal.

The Atlantic mackerel (Scomber colias) is a species of fish in the mackerel family (Scombridae). It is found in the Atlantic Ocean from Norway to Africa, as well as in the Mediterranean Sea, and off the coasts of North and South America. It prefers coastal waters and often congregates near the surface. It is recognized by its metallic blue-green back, silvery sides, and vertical stripes, and usually reaches a length of 30–40 centimeters.

Berthe, a respected canned fish producer, was founded in Portugal in 1853. The company selects the best fish from the Matosinhos fish market, carefully processes it and cans it through Ramirez & Ca. (Filhos) SA – one of the oldest canneries in the world, dating back to 1906. Berthe cans are specially designed for the French market and feature French-language labels and the iconic girl on the front label, a symbol of Lyon literature. Today, the Berthe brand is part of the Ramirez portfolio.

Mackerel meat is usually firm and has a distinct flavor that some find strong and slightly fishy, making it a great choice for grilling, baking, or smoking. Although oily, mackerel is not as oily as sardines.
